We\u2019re right in the middle of prospect season where each team has their top ten\u2019s sliced and diced, analyzed and discussed. The Phillies are no stranger to this with their top ten lists having been released across most sites that produce the comprehensive content we\u2019re craving. Here is how they stack up so far.<\/p>\n

The consensus is easy. Andrew Painter is the top prospect in this system and it really isn\u2019t close. As much as we\u2019d like to see him pitching in the major leagues to begin the season, it\u2019s beginning to look wiser and wiser that the team protect him. Save whatever bullets he\u2019s got for when they might need him most.<\/p>\n

Some other general thoughts about these lists:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Kind of disappointing that the team\u2019s top draft pick last year is not in the top ten of two of the major lists we see here. While I\u2019m sure that Dante Nori will end up making the major leagues at some point, the fact that it looks like the team went for a higher floor player as opposed to someone that might have a higher ceiling (while also possessing a decently high floor himself) is starting to look disappointing. Time will tell.<\/li>\n
  • Aidan Miller sure has acquitted himself well and is starting to look like a steal for the Phillies. There is no reason to rush him to the major leagues with capable starters already in the position(s) he might play, but there is also no reason to hold him back either.<\/li>\n
  • Whither Mick Abel?<\/li>\n
  • I will be in the minority here as I will self admittedly claim I know very little about prospects, but they should look to capitalize on Moises Chace\u2019s helium at the trade deadline if he continues to perform. Yes the team can use as many good arms as possible in the near future, particularly those that might do well in the bullpen, but I just get the whiff of Griff McGarry with Chace.
