Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Jack Flaherty is likely headed out of Los Angeles this winter. The Dodgers have brought in plenty of starting pitchers to replace him.<\/p>\n

That leaves Flaherty looking for a new team.<\/p>\n

The righty has been closely connected to the Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles with contract projections ranging over $100 million.<\/p>\n

While both of these suitors make a lot of sense, there’s still room for other teams to swoop in and steal the former Dodgers World Series hero.<\/p>\n

Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller recently suggested the Kansas City Royals could be a surprising landing spot for the righty instead of seeing him land with the Braves or Orioles.<\/p>\n

“Flaherty’s market has been so quiet (at least publicly) that just about anywhere that he signs would prove a bit shocking,”<\/em> Miller wrote. ”<\/p>\n

But Kansas City, in particular, would be a real eyebrow-raiser.<\/p>\n

Right now, the Royals’ $115.7M projected payroll is effectively identical to where they began last season ($115.4M), and maybe that’s as high as they’re willing to go.<\/p>\n

But they did have an average OD payroll of $132.2M from 2016-18 and plausibly could stand to make a Flaherty-sized splash.”<\/p>\n

The Royals could look to build a starting rotation that could rival the Dodgers and the Seattle Mariners if they’re able to land Flaherty.<\/p>\n

Last season, Kansas City threatened to shock the world and win a few postseason series.<\/p>\n

In 2025, an addition like Flaherty could help Bobby Witt Jr. and company win the American League pennant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
