\u00a0The\u00a0Los Angeles Dodgers\u00a0will commemorate their World Series championship on Friday with a downtown parade followed by a celebration at Dodger Stadium.<\/p>\n

The team said Wednesday that because of logistics, traffic and timing, fans won\u2019t be able to attend both events.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in five games, clinching the title with a 7-6 victory in the Bronx.<\/p>\n

The parade will begin midmorning at Gloria Molina Grand Park in front of City Hall with Mayor Karen Bass in attendance. It will continue on a 45-minute route that culminates at the intersection of 5th and Flower streets, with the Dodgers traveling atop double-decker buses.<\/p>\n

The celebration at Dodger Stadium will begin shortly after noon. The parade will be carried on the stadium\u2019s videoboards ahead of the team\u2019s arrival.<\/p>\n

A portion of the proceeds from the ticketed stadium event will be donated to the Los Angeles Dodger Foundation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n

Japan celebrates as Dodgers\u2019 Ohtani, Yamamoto win World Series<\/h1>\n<\/header>\n

TOKYO \u2014 The World Series trophy is headed to Los Angeles, but there\u2019s a hearty celebration going on across the Pacific Ocean in Japan, too.<\/p>\n

People milled around the edge of the Ginza shopping area in central Tokyo on Thursday afternoon as single-sheet, special newspaper editions rolled off the presses, proclaiming Japanese stars\u00a0Shohei Ohtani\u00a0and\u00a0Yoshinobu Yamamoto\u00a0as world champions along with their Dodgers teammates after a stirring Game 5 victory over the\u00a0New York Yankees.<\/p>\n

The headline in Japanese in the Yomiuri newspaper, set in yellow and blue type \u2014 with red highlights \u2014 read: No. 1 in The World. Ohtani beats the Yankees.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to thank my Japanese fans for coming all the way to cheer me this season,\u201d Ohtani said on Japanese television. \u201cThat cheering gave me some energy, so I\u2019m glad I could return the gratitude by winning.\u201d<\/p>\n

The newspaper handouts are a Tokyo tradition when Japan celebrates a big event. And it was a scramble, as usual, with men and women \u2014 young and old \u2014 sprinting up and down the sidewalk to get their free collector\u2019s items.<\/p>\n

Yasuko Shibata, an 80-year-old woman who said she faithfully watches Ohtani\u2019s games, said she admired \u201cOhtani\u2019s personality.\u201d Not to mention his great play.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis presence is huge,\u201d she said. \u201cHe is a source of my energy. When he doesn\u2019t do well, I also feel blue\u201d<\/p>\n

Another fan echoed her thoughts, standing near the Ginza underground entrance.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is the pride of Japan,\u201d said Hideki Shinohara, who called himself a hardcore fan. \u201cYou cannot describe him with just \u2018amazing.\u2019 You need to invent a new word.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shinohara added: \u201cHe went through many things this year, and I didn\u2019t expect him to come all this way. I am very pleased with what he has achieved. \u201d<\/p>\n

The Japanese pride in Ohtani is a huge one for a country whose players were once considered too small, or only good pitchers. Now, there is strong pride in the fact that their players are among the best in the game.<\/p>\n

Japan defeated the United States in the World Baseball Classic final last year in Miami, another sign of the country\u2019s prowess in the American pastime.<\/p>\n

It was also a victory for Ohtani\u2019s hometown in northern Japan \u2014 Oshu City \u2014 where fans have been gathering all week and anticipating their superstar would help deliver the title.<\/p>\n
