2019 3rd-round draft pick and former Mets\u2019 top prospect Matt Allan is involved in the team\u2019s \u201cTop Gun\u201d pitching development camp, which is loaded with the team\u2019s top pitching prospects. Also on the list are top-1oo prospects, such as righties Brandon Sproat, Nolan McLean, and Jonah Tong.<\/p>\n

Allan, who is now 23, has undergone multiple elbow procedures since being drafted by the Mets in 2019, a class that also featured Brett Baty. The former Florida Gator commit appeared in six games in the Mets\u2019 system in 2019, including five starts, and allowed three runs over 10 1\/3 innings. Allan\u2019s 2020 was washed away, just like all other minor leaguers, with the shortened COVID-19 season that saw no minor league action. He did participate at the Mets alternate site during the lost season.<\/p>\n

He tore his UCL in the early stages of the 2021 season and underwent Tommy John surgery early that May. Allan had two other surgeries on his elbow in the following two years, including a UCL revision procedure in February of 2023. In total, three major elbow surgeries have sidelined the right-handed starter over the last four seasons, but indications are that he is healthy and ready to go for camp this spring. He did throw last summer at the Mets facility in Port St. Lucie.<\/p>\n

Allan was a high-profile prospect coming out of the draft in 2019, and was one of the more polarizing stories heading into draft day.
