The Boston Red Sox have made some key moves to improve their roster for the 2025 MLB season early this offseason, including signing former Los Angeles Dodgers hurler Walker Buehler.<\/p>\n

Nearly a week after the deal was initially reported, the Red Sox officially announced the signing on Sunday, and MassLive’s Chris Cotillo reported\u00a0the details of the contract.<\/p>\n

The deal, which was originally reported as one year at $21.05 million is a bit more interesting than that. It includes a $3.05 million signing bonus, a $15 million base salary and a $25 million mutual option for the 2026 season with a $3 million buyout. He also gets a $500,000 bonus for every two starts between his 20th and 28th starts in 2025.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old had a rough year in 2024, posting a 5.38 ERA, 1.553 WHIP and 7.6 K\/9 in just 16 starts after returning from Tommy John. He did help Los Angeles win the World Series with a 3.60 ERA, 1.133 WHIP and 7.8 K\/9 in 15 postseason innings.<\/p>\n

Boston is hoping that he has a bounce-back year in 2025, but if he does, he probably won’t be interested in returning on the option for 2026.<\/p>\n
