The Patriots are unlikely to surpass their win total from last season and fans want to see dramatic change.<\/p>\n

Despite the outcries, multiple reports indicate it\u2019s likely Jerod Mayo will return to the New England sideline as head coach. Things certainly could change, but reports hint that Robert Kraft is still very high on his chosen Bill Belichick successor.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why Alex Van Pelt is the presumed favorite to get fired after the regular season ends. There\u2019s no confirmation that this will be the case, and multiple players, including Drake Maye, defended the offensive coordinator amid the unit\u2019s struggles.<\/p>\n

Nick Cattles on \u201cZolak & Bertrand\u201d on Thursday offered up the idea of Van Pelt taking a demotion to become the quarterbacks coach in order to bring on someone like Brian Daboll to lead the offense. NBC Sports Boston\u2019s Phil Perry didn\u2019t dismiss the idea and believed it could be a possibility. Perry noted that those around the league praised Van Pelt as a stand-up individual and his lack of ego could lead him to take a demotion if he meant helping out Maye.<\/p>\n

It would be an unprecedented move, one that would shake up other parts of the Patriots staff. However, New England doesn\u2019t want to repeat the same mistakes it made with Mac Jones, so there could be something drastic done to ensure Maye is given the proper support he needs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n
