The NFL schedule makers did the\u00a0San Francisco 49ers\u00a0no favors next season.<\/p>\n

Despite playing nine home games and eight away, the\u00a049ers will travel 38,105 miles next season\u00a0\u2014 more than any team in 2026. It\u2019s also more than any team ever in\u00a0NFL\u00a0history,\u00a0per David Lombardi\u00a0of the San Francisco Standard.<\/p>\n

The 49ers will travel 3,258 more miles than the next-closest team, the\u00a0Los Angeles Rams\u00a0(34,847 miles). San Francisco and L.A., which play one another in Melbourne, Australia, in Week 1, are the only two teams with more than 30,000 travel miles next season.<\/p>\n

In addition to the season opener in Australia, the 49ers will also travel to Mexico City on Nov. 22 for a Week 11 matchup against the\u00a0Minnesota Vikings.<\/p>\n

Kyle Shanahan Irked by 49ers\u2019 Travel Schedule<\/h2>\n

After learning San Francisco was slated to travel close to 8,000 miles. And over 16 hours to Australia, head coach Kyle Shanahan didn\u2019t hesitate to let the league know that he wasn\u2019t thrilled about the arrangement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was so fired up [when I heard],\u201d Shanahan sarcastically told reporters. \u201cThat was our goal to go 19 hours away to play a game. \u2026 We\u2019ll deal with it. And I think there\u2019s [nine] international games. We\u2019ve got two of them, so we\u2019re fired up about that.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026 I don\u2019t see any pro [for us]. It\u2019s cool for the league to play globally. I think that\u2019s awesome. But as far as the team doing it, no, there\u2019s not much benefit to it. Sometimes it\u2019s nice to get a bye week after but doesn\u2019t happen in Week 1.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shanahan even went as far as to\u00a0accuse the NFL of conspiring with the Rams\u00a0during an appearance on \u201cPro Football Talk\u201d back in April. He believes L.A. wanted the Australia game to keep 49ers fans from taking over their stadium.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m pretty sure the Rams lobbied for that game,\u201d\u00a0Green Bay Packers\u00a0head coach Matt LaFleur stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know for a fact they did, that\u2019s why it\u2019s so bothersome,\u201d Shanahan said. \u201cHopefully the league will do right and let us play the Rams in Mexico since we got to go out of the country twice and they requested us. I\u2019m requesting them in Mexico \u2014 not that that gives us an advantage, it\u2019s just fair to make them go out of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo you think the Rams have lobbied because they\u2019re sick of seeing the 49ers dominate the crowd at SoFi?\u201d PFT analyst\u00a0Chris Simms\u00a0asked.<\/p>\n

Shanahan responded: \u201cYeah, and I get that \u2014 that would suck to have to do a silent cadence and have our home game at their stadium, so I get their ambitions. But they were rewarded that, so I\u2019m hoping we can get our request too. I\u2019d love them to come to Mexico. Our Mexican fan base is awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roger Goodell Fires Back at Shanahan<\/h2>\n

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell had some words for 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan about the team\u2019s travel schedule<\/p>\n

Shanahan\u2019s remarks made their way back to Roger Goodell. The NFL commissioner was asked if he had anything to say to the snarky comments made by the 49ers HC.<\/p>\n

\u201cCoaches [should] focus on winning \u2014 that\u2019s their No. 1 job,\u201d Goodell told reporters. \u201cAnd so, coach Shanahan is enthusiastic and a great football coach, but also someone who truly understands the importance of expanding our game globally. But his job is to win, his job is to play. I always say coaches like to play at 1 o\u2019clock and 4 o\u2019clock, and don\u2019t get in the way of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Goodell also offered to help Shanahan overcome any possible jetlag he may experience following his 15-plus hour flight to Melbourne.<\/p>\n
