The New York Mets need to continue to add to their roster this offseason. Signing superstar Juan Soto to a massive $765 million deal is huge, but it’s not going to win them the World Series by itself.<\/p>\n

FanSided’s Michael Brakebill predicts the Mets will continue to make big moves this winter. Brakebill recently predicted the\u00a0Mets would sign the best reliever on the market, Tanner Scott, away from the San Diego Padres. Jon Heyman of the New York Post projects\u00a0Scott to sign a contract worth $54 million\u00a0this winter.<\/p>\n

“Scott is the priciest reliever on the market, but the Mets need to add All-Stars to their roster after prying Soto away from the Yankees,” Brakebill wrote. “After recording a 2.04 ERA over his last 150 IP in two seasons, 30-year-old Scott has earned his multi-year deal. The Mets’ bullpen was only 17th best in\u00a0MLB\u00a0in 2024, so expect them to shore that up by adding the best available.”<\/p>\n

Scott would be a luxury signing for the Mets. New York needs to, and likely will, prioritize re-signing or replacing slugger Pete Alonso at first base. The Mets also need to add another starting pitcher or two to the rotation. After that, they could afford to give a closer over $50 million to split closer duties with Edwin Diaz.<\/p>\n

Brakebill makes this prediction alongside two other predictions that send starting pitcher Sean Manaea and the aforementioned Alonso to Queens. With those two signings in mind, this makes sense for New York. Owner Steve Cohen has deep pockets.
