The organization is leaving behind 2024, for good reason, and turning its eyes to 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hopefully,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> a <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">brighter and less injured <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">future is in store for the <\/span>49ers <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> next season. To <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">reach<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> that future, the front office must pull all the right strings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It starts with <\/span>extending quarterback Brock Purdy <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, which is practically guaranteed, according to recent reports. Cutting Javon Hargrave and Deebo Samuel <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">has<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to be on the table. And deciding which potential high-price players are worth keeping around must be prioritized.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The 49ers are projected to have $65 million in cap space <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">to start<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> 2025 before the aforementioned Purdy extension. Thus, San Francisco will have to be picky <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">with how they spend their<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> money.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">One analyst believes the 49ers should focus on retaining one of their stars rather than playing at the top of the free-agent market.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>49ers Predicted to Re-sign All Pro<\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">According to <\/span>Bleacher Report\u2019s Kristopher Knox <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, the 49ers should sign safety Talanoa Hufanga to a lucrative contract extension during the season rather than waiting for the offseason.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Knox acknowledges <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hufanga\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> injury history but believes the young safety is too much of a playmaker for San Francisco to let test the market.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cE<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">xtending him now would prevent the 49ers from competing with other teams for his services and could help provide a little financial clarity ahead of a huge offseason decision<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hufanga, a 2022 All-Pro, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">suffered a torn<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> ACL in November last season.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> After returning, he played just two games before tearing ligaments in his wrist. The injury cost him <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">10<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> games in 2024, which could potentially drive his asking price down.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">To <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Knox\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> point, locking up Hufanga now at a cheaper price would lay the groundwork for a pivotal offseason.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In two games back from the wrist injury, Hufanga has exploded off the tape. Totaling 13 tackles, one tackle for loss, and a <\/span>77 PFF run-defense grade <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, the fourth-year safety demonstrated his talents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The 49ers already signed cornerback Deommodore Lenoir to a five-year, $88.8 million extension this year \u2014 a move Knox says San Francisco should emulate the urgency of with Hufanga.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>With limited funds, the 49ers have to be smart with their spending. Knox\u2019s prediction for Hufanga\u2019s contract fits into a plan that should allow San Francisco plenty of offseason flexibility.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Hufanga Contract Prediction:<\/h2>\n<p>The belief is Purdy\u2019s extension will take priority over other moves, but Knox says San Francisco should consider solidifying the rest of the roster first.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPurdy may command a top-of-the-market contract because that\u2019s just the nature of the quarterback position. The 49ers have $50.9 million in cap space currently, and they may want to address other contracts before assessing what they\u2019re willing to offer Purdy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Building the roster first is not a bad plan, especially with how much turnover could be in order. Extending Hufanga could be another step to fortify the 49ers\u2019 defense before committing a multi-year contract to Purdy.<\/p>\n<p>Knox predicts the 49ers to sign Talanoa Hufanga to a three-year, $45 million extension with $19.5 million guaranteed.
