While it could be good to give Volpe a reset, the concern is that he would take playing time from one of the Yankees\u2019 top prospects, George Lombard Jr. Nevertheless, it seems like New York has a plan, according to Brendan Kuty via X, formerly Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGeorge Lombard Jr. is going to bounce around in the infield at Triple A, Boone says. Volpe will play SS, but didn\u2019t rule out the possibility of him getting work at other positions. Said that \u2018conversations\u2019 could happen in coming days,\u201d Kuty reported.<\/p>\n<p>The report may make it seem like the Yankees are moving Lombard Jr. out of his natural position in favor of Volpe, but the long-term outlook for their prospect could be to move him to another infield position. With Lombard Jr. on a rocketship to the Bronx, his quickest way there seems to be as Ryan McMahon\u2019s replacement, the Yankees\u2019 third baseman. If they give him more reps at third in AAA, it could make the transition to the majors much easier.<\/p>\n<p>Keeping Volpe comfortable in the field might also help him focus on getting his bat back to the level it once was.
