Unless you\u2019re a fan of the San Francisco 49ers, odds are you do not appreciate Brock Purdy for what he has accomplished in his NFL career. Not just as a seventh-round pick, but the 2022 Mr. Irrelevant, Purdy\u2019s story of resilience should make him a fan favorite, but instead,\u00a0he gets far too much criticism.<\/p>\n

At every turn Purdy has been slandered even though he has shattered every possible expectation week in and week out. The narratives following him have labeled him as a \u201csystem quarterback\u201d in the perfect situation for a young QB, but Kyle Juszczyk is setting out to quiet those discussions for good.<\/p>\n

While appearing on the Jim Rome Show, Juszczyk had nothing but good things to say about his quarterback, both on and off the gridiron. He\u2019s starting to get tired of all of the disrespect towards Purdy, even citing him as \u201cthe most competitive person in the world\u201d at one point during the interview.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u201dI don\u2019t know what it\u2019s gonna take for this guy to finally get the respect I think he truly deserves. I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s just the fact that he\u2019s not a first-round draft pick. Is that gonna be the story for his entire career?\u201d\u201d<\/div>\n

Kyle Juszczyk<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Juice\u2019s argument is that because Purdy isn\u2019t a first-round pick, he\u2019s not looked at as \u201celite\u201d by the masses despite his success. Guys like Justin Fields and Zach Wilson have received opportunity after opportunity for being a former first-round pick, but because the 26-year-old was a Day 3 guy, he doesn\u2019t get the same benefit of the doubt. It\u2019s\u00a0the same treatment Tom Brady got\u00a0during his career.<\/p>\n

Kyle Juszczyk sees Brock Purdy as an elite QB, even if the rest of the NFL doesn\u2019t<\/h2>\n

The narrative surrounding Purdy is that he\u2019s propped up by the best possible situation, especially the opportunity to learn under an all-time great play-caller in Kyle Shanahan. Do you think he chose where he wanted to get drafted? At that point, all you can do is play with the hand that you\u2019re dealt.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Is Purdy fortunate for entering the NFL in the situation he did? Absolutely. It isn\u2019t every day you get to throw to Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and George Kittle (and later Christian McCaffrey) to start your career, but that doesn\u2019t mean\u00a0the Niners\u2019 supporting cast deserves the credit\u00a0for his success.<\/p>\n

Purdy still started his NFL career as the third-string QB behind Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, yet was so impressive in his first few starts that the next offseason, the 49ers traded Lance to Dallas for pennies on the dollar after trading two first-rounders in order to pick him not even two years earlier.<\/p>\n

Shanahan\u2019s system has always been QB-friendly. but not everyone is $265 million worthy. Jimmy G plateaued after the Super Bowl run, and Mac Jones and Sam Darnold just needed a change of scenery. The reason that Shanahan continues to roll with Purdy as QB1 is because nobody is as smart as him.<\/p>\n

The 10-time Pro Bowler is merely saying what NFL fans need to hear. You can question Purdy and credit his success to the situation, but that would be doing a disservice to the player. Purdy might not be in the Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson tier, he\u2019s a guy you can win with and\u00a0people want to play with.<\/p>\n
