<\/picture> <\/span> Photo by Scott Winters\/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images<\/cite><\/figure>\nShould the Chiefs make yet another change at left tackle on Sunday, Heck did not reveal whether Morris would return to the lineup or if the team would see left guard Joe Thuney temporarily move outside. He reiterated that the call ultimately belonged to head coach Andy Reid.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got a lot of options here, and ultimately, coach Reid will make that decision,\u201d Heck confirmed.<\/p>\n
Although Morris and Suamataia have struggled while on the field, Heck noted the efforts both young players continue to show in practice. He also appreciated how Morris reacted to being taken out of the lineup for Humphries \u2014 and the poise the second-year pro showed coming off the bench for the Chiefs\u2019 final nine snaps Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought [Morris] handled that whole situation like a pro,\u201d said Heck, \u201cfrom the moment we talked to him about what our plans were [and] what our intentions were. He approached it the right way and went out. As a young player, he\u2019s continuing to work \u2014 as we all are \u2014 to get better.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought he did that, and then when he was called on \u2014 I mean, you\u2019ve got to be ready, you know, things happen, and he was \u2014 he stepped in. I thought he did a good job.\u201d<\/p>\n
Heck reported strong showings for Suamataia in practice.<\/p>\n
\u201c[He\u2019s] also handling it like a pro, a young pro \u2014but he\u2019s working very hard every day, and I\u2019m seeing some improvement out of him,\u201d remarked Heck. \u201cI really like both of our young tackles and their ability and how they\u2019re working right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Heck still sees Suamataia as a possible future starting tackle, he revealed that the rookie has worked at other positions.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s got left tackle ability, for sure,\u201d Heck observed, \u201cand I love what he can do out there. But like all of our linemen, we train him to play multiple positions. So, you\u2019ll see him in practice; he\u2019ll jump in at guard. We don\u2019t peg anybody as \u2018He\u2019s this or that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n While Heck\u2019s unit has struggled at times, the coach knows what can lead to improvement.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019d say the same thing that gets our offense in rhythm,\u201d he offered, \u201cwhen you\u2019re staying ahead of the chains, you\u2019re being positive on first and second down, you get into third and manageable. Obvious things, but when that happens and guys start feeling that you\u2019re in a flow, now you\u2019re playing freer [and] you\u2019re playing more confidently.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a trickle-down effect, and you\u2019ve got to start fast. Coach does a great job of setting up his play calls \u2014 his famous first [15 plays]. That really, I think, a lot of times helps our offense get into a rhythm.\u201d<\/p>\n With the Browns on the docket, Heck echoes sentiments shared on Wednesday about edge rusher Myles Garrett, a five-time Pro Bowl selection. While whoever ultimately starts at left tackle will see plenty of Garrett, the Chiefs’ entire line should be prepared to line up opposite the pass rusher. Heck also knows the Browns\u2019 defense has threatening options beyond their star.<\/p>\n \u201cI would say he\u2019ll be everyone\u2019s issue at some point,\u201d he predicted. \u201cOf course, he loves to line up on our left a lot, but everybody\u2019s going to have an opportunity to block him, and he\u2019s a great player. Really, they\u2019ve got an outstanding front. Like a lot of the teams we\u2019ve faced, their front seven is their strength \u2014 particularly that front.<\/p>\n \u201cThose guys get off the bus rushing the passer. Now, they\u2019re going to be at home. They\u2019re going to be coming off the rock, and they do a great job of getting upfield and creating penetration and problems for offense.
