When it comes to Top 30 visits in ahead of the\u00a0NFL\u00a0draft, things can sometimes be a bit deceiving. For example, the\u00a0Dallas Cowboys\u00a0met with Indiana star receiver Omar Cooper on a Top 30 visit, despite the fact that Cooper is a probable first-round pick and there\u2019s a near-zero chance that the Cowboys would use their No. 20 overall pick to go after a receiver. Why they met with Cooper is a fair question\u2013pre-scouting, smokescreen, whatever it may be\u2013but it doesn\u2019t change the fact they\u2019re almost certainly not going to pick him.<\/p>\n

And maybe it is the same thing now with Tennessee defensive back Jermod McCoy, who is widely considered a first-round pick and one of the best corners on the board but not someone the Cowboys would pursue. McCoy had surgery to repair a torn ACL he suffered in January, and missed all of the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

He is well past the one-year mark on his recovery, and by the time training camp opens it will have been 18 months, which is more than enough time to recovery from that injury. Perhaps with that in mind, it was announced that the Cowboys would have McCoy in for a visit.<\/p>\n

Cowboys Will Have Jermod McCoy on a Top 30 Visit<\/h2>\n

That comes from ESPN Cowboys beat reporter Todd Archer, who tallied the total number of cornerbacks who have or will meet with Dallas at seven.<\/p>\n

He wrote on Twitter\/X: \u201cAdd two more cornerbacks to the Cowboys\u2019 top 30 list. Tennessee\u2019s Jermod McCoy and Indiana\u2019s D\u2019Angelo Ponds are scheduled to be at The Star next week. That would bring the total known corners to be on the list to seven. Lot to make certain of with McCoy\u2019s knee.\u201d<\/p>\n

At\u00a0Pro Football Focus, McCoy is considered the No. 17 player over all, and No. 2 cornerback. Ponds is the No. 43 overall player and No. 5 cornerback.<\/p>\n

Cowboys \u2018Not Expected\u2019 to Pick Jermod McCoy<\/h2>\n

But there have been reports that the Cowboys have no interest in McCoy, presumably because of that knee. Owner Jerry Jones has said there are no \u201credshirt\u201d years for incoming rookies, that the team needs players to be productive from the get-go. Even if he is healthy now, McCoy has not played competitive football in a long time.<\/p>\n

Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram pointed out earlier in the week that the fact the Cowboys had not had a Top 30 visit with McCoy was an indication that the team was not interested.<\/p>\n

Wrote Harris on Tuesday, \u201cOf note, commonly mocked to the Cowboys, CB Jermod McCoy, was not among the 30 visitors. The Star-Telegram reported after the NFL Combine that he is not expected to be in play for the Cowboys because of his injury history, and that remains the expectation following his Pro Day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Most Anticipated Pro Day This Year\u2019<\/h2>\n

Maybe that is changing for the Cowboys, though, especially as it becomes clearer that the top cornerback in the draft, Mansoor Delane, will likely be gone by the time the Cowboys pick at No. 12. If McCoy is truly the second-best corner in this draft, and considering he is a year-and-a-half removed from his knee injury, the Cowboys could relent on their No-McCoy stance.<\/p>\n

After his Pro Day at the end of March, NFL draft guru\u00a0Todd McShay of The Ringer\u00a0wrote on Twitter\/X: \u201cThe most anticipated Pro Day this year just took place and Tennessee CB Jermod McCoy aced the test. The results I\u2019m told were as follows: 4.38 40 (range from others was 4.37-4.41) with 38\u201d VJ and 10\u20197\u201d BJ.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the Combine, 40 would have been T-2 and BJ T-10 among CBs. The VJ is solid but would have been 13th. McCoy was reportedly cleared to play during the season but opted not to, and he chose not to participate at the Senior Bowl and Combine.
