Longtime Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid has been a staple of the annual NFL head coaches’ photo taken each year at the annual league meeting in late March.<\/p>\n

2025 was not a good season for Reid and the Chiefs. His team not only missed the AFC Championship game for the first time since 2017, but Kansas City also missed the. playoffs for the first time since 2014 (Reid’s second season in town).<\/p>\n

Perhaps this is why the three-time Super Bowl-winning coach was relegated to the back row in the coaches’ photo. Reid, who donned his customary Hawaiian shirt, was moved to the back right from his typical spot of front-center.<\/p>\n

The position swap is particularly confusing, considering Reid missed the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine after undergoing an offseason knee surgery.<\/p>\n

Reid is the oldest coach in the NFL at 68-years-old, a mark he inherited after the Las Vegas Raiders fired coach Pete Carroll after just a single season in charge.<\/p>\n

Who replaced Reid front and center? Both the Harbaugh brothers \u2014 John with the New York Giants, Jim with the Los Angeles Chargers \u2014 were flanked by Mike MacDonald (reigning Super Bowl-winning coach with the Seattle Seahawks), Sean Payton (AFC top seed with the Denver Broncos), and Maff LeFleur (six playoff trips in seven years with the Green Bay Packers).<\/p>\n

Behind them and standing was New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel \u2014 who made a Super Bowl appearance this year \u2014 and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles (three NFC South wins in four years).<\/p>\n

Kansas City already signed Reid to a contract extension through the end of the 2029 season, so the change probably doesn’t indicate Reid is on his way out of the NFL.<\/p>\n

Speaking last week, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt thinks his longtime coach is feeling good about the job. “He’s reinvigorated,” Hunt said of Reid, per ESPN.<\/p>\n

“Going through multiple years where we were playing in the Super Bowl, creating these really short offseasons, put a lot of stress on him, as well as the entire team, including coaching staff and scouts. “<\/p>\n

“He’s really benefited from having some time to really step back and think about [last] season, think about what didn’t go right and think about what kind of changes need to be made…..I do sense that he’s excited to get started.”<\/p>\n

Kansas City signed running back Kenneth Walker in free agency and imported some key veterans to the defense (Khyiris Tonga, Alohi Gilman, and Kader Kohou).<\/p>\n

The Chiefs pick ninth in the 2026 NFL Draft, the franchise’s first top-10 pick since 2013.<\/p>\n<\/article>\n
