The Boston Red Sox might be off to a rocky start this season, but there’s a shining light on their roster that’s hard to ignore: Wilyer Abreu. This young outfielder is making a strong case for the Red Sox to lock him down with a lucrative, long-term contract.<\/p>\n

Back in February, there was buzz that Boston had put a long-term offer on the table for Abreu before the 2024 season. However, Abreu decided to bet on himself, feeling it wasn’t the right time to commit.<\/p>\n

Despite being the subject of trade rumors alongside Jarren Duran over the past year, Abreu’s performance should silence any remaining whispers. At just 26, he’s under team control until 2029, giving the Red Sox a golden opportunity to secure his services for even longer.<\/p>\n

A five-year, $100 million deal could be a wise move for Boston, covering his remaining years of control and buying out two years of free agency, extending through 2031. With Abreu playing at this level, he’s certainly worth the investment, and any delay might only increase his asking price.<\/p>\n

Injuries have been a concern for Abreu in the past, with him playing 115 games in 2025 and 132 in 2024.
