Teoscar Hern\u00e1ndez apparently is telling folks around Major League Baseball that yesterday\u2019s price is not today\u2019s price.<\/p>\n

Hern\u00e1ndez entered the offseason as one of the most coveted bats available in free agency. But with Juan Soto off the board and set to join the New York Mets, the two-time All-Star might now be the most coveted bat on the open market.<\/p>\n

In turn, Hern\u00e1ndez and his team reportedly have spiked the cost of the veteran slugger\u2019s services.<\/p>\n

\u201cAccording to sources, Hern\u00e1ndez\u2019s asking price was being influenced by the perceived post-Soto desperation,\u201d Audacy\u2019s Rob Bradford wrote in a column published Wednesday. \u201cIt was making some of the outfield\u2019s potential suitors \u2013 including the Red Sox \u2013 investigate other options to fill the role of a lefty-torturing right-handed bat.\u201d<\/p>\n

At this point, an interested team probably will need to go the extra financial mile to sign Hern\u00e1ndez. The New York Yankees on Tuesday deemed that strategy necessary to pick up Max Fried, who became the club\u2019s marquee offseason addition after it missed out on Soto.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox have other pressing needs to address, so time will tell if they find common ground with Hern\u00e1ndez. But a recent report indicated Boston planned to be \u201caggressive\u201d in its efforts to land the 2024 World Series champion.<\/p>\n
