Former Chiefs WR Daurice Fountain, who played for the organization in 2021, took to social media to urge general manager Brett Veach to text him.<\/p>\n

Fountain has bounced around practice squads since being released by Kansas City, most recently being with the Lions. Originally a 2018 fifth-round pick out of Northern Iowa, he was an exciting player due to his six-foot-two stature and physicality.<\/p>\n

While the Chiefs have had significant issues at receiver so far this season, they’re getting healthier and are likely set. Even still, it’s fun to imagine Fountain reuniting with the team for a playoff run.<\/p>\n

Perhaps this signing would’ve made sense early in the season once Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown went down with injury. Now, it’s more wishful thinking than anything.<\/p>\n

Rice isn’t coming back but Brown is expected to play within the next few weeks, Xavier Worthy is becoming more of a reliable contributor and the midseason acquisition of DeAndre Hopkins leaves the Chiefs’ wideout group in strong shape.<\/p>\n

After a quiet start to the year, Travis Kelce is once again a dominant force. Kansas City’s largest problems have been the tackles on the offensive line and the secondary. At this point, receiver isn’t so much of an issue.<\/p>\n

Besides, Fountain has only ever recorded two catches in the NFL. He’s a practice squad guy looking for work and perhaps there could be a place on the Chiefs’ practice squad for him next year. For now though, Kansas City seems content with the players they have.<\/p>\n

Fans have seen a lot of receivers come through over the years. Fountain was unexceptional and there’s a reason he’s been a journeyman in the league. That’s nothing against him, but it seems clear he wouldn’t make a big impact even if he was signed.<\/p>\n

Veach is a master at leaving no stone unturned. If he wanted Fountain on the roster, he would’ve already made it happen.<\/p>\n
