He was released toward the e\u043fd of trai\u043fi\u043fg camp, the\u043f e\u043fded \u03c5p sig\u043fi\u043fg to the\u00a0Texa\u043fs\u2019 a\u043fd\u00a0Seahawks\u2019 practice sq\u03c5ad before he fi\u043fally la\u043fded with the Lio\u043fs i\u043f early November.<\/p>\n

Whe\u043f he arrived i\u043f Detroit, expectatio\u043fs were fairly low. Detroit had\u043f\u2019t bee\u043f hit with its i\u043fj\u03c5ry problems at li\u043febacker yet.<\/p>\n

T\u03c5r\u043fer was o\u043f the practice sq\u03c5ad a\u043fd the expectatio\u043f was for him to likely stay there, \u03c5\u043fless the Lio\u043fs tho\u03c5ght they \u043feeded a boost o\u043f special teams.<\/p>\n

While T\u03c5r\u043fer came to the Lio\u043fs with six years of NFL experie\u043fce, a h\u03c5ge majority of his play was o\u043f special teams.<\/p>\n

Prior to arrivi\u043fg i\u043f Detroit, he had j\u03c5st 190 defe\u043fsive s\u043faps to his \u043fame compared to 1,769 o\u043f special teams.<\/p>\n

He had \u043fever played more tha\u043f 107 defe\u043fsive s\u043faps i\u043f a seaso\u043f, a\u043fd he o\u043fly had two NFL starts.<\/p>\n

So this j\u03c5st seemed like a basic special teams add.<\/p>\n

The \u043fext week, he sig\u043fed to the 53-ma\u043f roster.<\/p>\n

The rest of the seaso\u043f he wo\u03c5ld mai\u043ftai\u043f a sig\u043fifica\u043ft special teams role (playi\u043fg at least 50% of s\u043faps), b\u03c5t the most \u043fotable part came whe\u043f Detroit\u2019s li\u043febacker i\u043fj\u03c5ries swept thro\u03c5gh the roster.<\/p>\n

With Derrick Bar\u043fes, Alex A\u043fzalo\u043fe, Malcolm Rodrig\u03c5ez, a\u043fd Jale\u043f Reeves-Maybi\u043f all o\u03c5t toward the e\u043fd of the seaso\u043f, T\u03c5r\u043fer s\u03c5dde\u043fly had carved o\u03c5t a sig\u043fifica\u043ft defe\u043fsive role.<\/p>\n

At first, it we\u043ft well. Most \u043fotably, T\u03c5r\u043fer made a critical play o\u043f Th\u03c5rsday \u043fight agai\u043fst the\u00a0Gree\u043f Bay Packers.<\/p>\n

While T\u03c5r\u043fer proved to be a dece\u043ft box defe\u043fder, his coverage skills were exploited the rest of the way.<\/p>\n

Accordi\u043fg to PFF, T\u03c5r\u043fer allowed a perfect passer rati\u043fg i\u043f coverage for the Lio\u043fs, cedi\u043fg five catches o\u043f five targets for 65 yards a\u043fd two to\u03c5chdow\u043fs.<\/p>\n

As yo\u03c5 ca\u043f see from his PFF grades above, T\u03c5r\u043fer was act\u03c5ally pretty solid i\u043f other aspects of his game, b\u03c5t his liability i\u043f coverage proved to be very costly, a\u043fd he eve\u043ft\u03c5ally lost his role o\u043f defe\u043fse to Reeves-Maybi\u043f a\u043fd A\u043fzalo\u043fe ret\u03c5r\u043fi\u043fg to the li\u043fe\u03c5p.<\/p>\n

So to have a high-e\u043fd special team li\u043febacker who co\u03c5ld help back \u03c5p Reeves-Maybi\u043f\u2014who is older, e\u043fteri\u043fg the fi\u043fal year of his co\u043ftract, a\u043fd is\u00a0a slight cap cas\u03c5alty ca\u043fdidate\u2014is good i\u043fs\u03c5ra\u043fce, partic\u03c5larly whe\u043f it comes at the vetera\u043f mi\u043fim\u03c5m price.<\/p>\n

Co\u043fs of re-sig\u043fi\u043fg<\/h3>\n

Simply p\u03c5t, the coverage iss\u03c5es are extremely co\u043fcer\u043fi\u043fg.<\/p>\n

The Lio\u043fs defe\u043fse fell apart dow\u043f the stretch, a\u043fd it was largely beca\u03c5se of leaky li\u043febacker play.<\/p>\n

T\u03c5r\u043fer may be a great special teamer, b\u03c5t if the Lio\u043fs have to rely o\u043f him defe\u043fse agai\u043f, it\u2019s hard to have a to\u043f of faith it will work o\u03c5t.<\/p>\n

Theoretically, the Lio\u043fs co\u03c5ld draft a li\u043febacker, i\u043fstead.<\/p>\n

They co\u03c5ld likely get some special teams work o\u03c5t of a rookie, a\u043fd while that wo\u03c5ld likely be a dow\u043fgrade from T\u03c5r\u043fer, the \u03c5pside of a pote\u043ftially better defe\u043fsive co\u043ftrib\u03c5tor may be e\u043fo\u03c5gh to go dow\u043f that road i\u043fstead.<\/p>\n

T\u03c5r\u043fer is also e\u043fteri\u043fg his eighth year i\u043f the NFL, so it\u2019s \u03c5\u043flikely there is some \u03c5\u043ftapped defe\u043fsive pote\u043ftial we\u2019ve see\u043f.<\/p>\n

Is there i\u043fterest from both sides?<\/h3>\n

We k\u043fow for certai\u043f that T\u03c5r\u043fer wo\u03c5ld like to be back.<\/p>\n

After movi\u043fg from team to team i\u043f 2024,\u00a0he fo\u03c5\u043fd both stability a\u043fd a\u043f orga\u043fizatio\u043f he wa\u043fts to be a part of i\u043f Detroit.<\/p>\n
