The San Francisco Giants are gearing up for a challenging season in the competitive NL West. With the Los Angeles Dodgers leading the pack as division favorites, the Giants are setting their sights on securing one of the three Wild Card spots. A key factor in their success will be the performance of their pitching staff.<\/p>\n

This offseason, the Giants bolstered their rotation by adding starters Adrian Houser and Tyler Mahle, and strengthened their bullpen with Sam Hentges and Jason Foley. With Opening Day against the New York Yankees just over two weeks away, Buster Posey, the president of baseball operations, is still actively enhancing the roster.<\/p>\n

In a strategic move, the Giants have signed left-hander Joey Lucchesi to a minor league contract, which includes an invitation to Major League camp. If Lucchesi makes the roster, he stands to earn $1.55 million.<\/p>\n

Lucchesi, who began his MLB journey with the San Diego Padres in 2018, brings valuable experience to the Giants. After three seasons with the Padres, he spent time with the New York Mets, overcoming Tommy John Surgery in 2022. Last year, Lucchesi posted a solid 3.76 ERA with 31 strikeouts and a 1.226 WHIP over 38.1 innings in the Giants’ bullpen.<\/p>\n

With Reiver Sanmartin potentially sidelined for up to three months due to a right hip flexor strain, Lucchesi’s addition provides crucial depth and insurance.
