The Houston Astros have made a notable move by designating Ram\u00f3n Ur\u00edas for assignment, and it looks like he’s found a new home with the St. Louis Cardinals.<\/p>\n

According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, Ur\u00edas has agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract with the Cardinals. The deal includes a $1.5 million salary for 2026 and a $500,000 buyout on a 2027 mutual option, with an additional $2 million in incentives tied to plate appearances.<\/p>\n

Ur\u00edas, who was traded to the Astros from the Baltimore Orioles last season, struggled offensively. He posted a .241 batting average with a .675 OPS, a noticeable drop from his previous season. In 35 games with the Astros, he hit .223 and managed three home runs.<\/p>\n

Despite his recent struggles at the plate, Ur\u00edas brings defensive versatility to the table. A Gold Glove winner in 2022 at third base, he’s also capable of handling duties at second base and shortstop. This flexibility is particularly valuable for the Cardinals, especially after trading away key infielders Nolan Arenado and Brendan Donovan this offseason.<\/p>\n

With a career slash line of .257\/.321\/.403 over 541 big league games, Ur\u00edas presents a cost-effective option for the Cardinals.
