After a stellar 2023 season that culminated in a World Series win, Semien’s performance dipped, recording his lowest WAR since 2020. With the Rangers looking to trim payroll, Semien’s $26 million salary became a focal point.<\/p>\n

While the move appeared primarily financial, whispers of underlying tensions between Semien and fellow star infielder Corey Seager surfaced. MLB insiders suggested that the Rangers faced a choice, and ultimately, they chose to keep Seager.<\/p>\n

The trade sent Semien to the New York Mets, a move that sparked discussion among league executives. One AL executive remarked, \u201cYou have to buy into the team first.<\/p>\n
