Officials largely ignored when former Buffalo Bills receiver Stefon Diggs got into a fight with Seattle Seahawks cornerback Josh Jobe in the Super Bowl, and now the league office has apparently taken the same approach.<\/p>\n

Diggs and Jobe tangled late in the second half, exchanging shoves after the Seahawks defensive back delivered a hit on Diggs out of bounds. Teammates broke up the fight and no flags were thrown despite what appeared to be some clear penalties.<\/p>\n

The NFL has now passed its review of the Super Bowl, coming to a similar decision when it comes to issuing fines.<\/p>\n

Stefon Diggs Escapes Punishment<\/strong><\/p>\n

The NFL reviews games from every week, then on Saturday afternoon announces fines for plays that took place during those games. The league did not announce any fines for the Super Bowl, meaning that Diggs<\/p>\n

Diggs and Jobe could have been facing some costly punishment. According to the NFL\u2019s official site on football operations, fighting carries an automatic fine of $40,686.<\/p>\n

It came as more of a surprise that Jobe was not punished, as he was the apparent instigator by delivering an illegal hit to Diggs while he was standing out of bounds. After Diggs responded with a shove, Jobe threw a punch \u2014 which could have carried an automatic ejection.<\/p>\n

Though he grew heated during the game, Diggs had a mostly measured response after the Super Bowl loss. He praised his teammates, sharing some perspective on the team\u2019s surprising season.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo proud of the guys,\u201d Diggs told reporters after the game. \u201cSuper proud of my teammates. I wish things could have went another way, can\u2019t do nothing about it now. Hell of a season to our guys.\u201d<\/p>\n

Diggs added that head coach Mike Vrabel shared encouragement throughout the game, including one piece that may have been prophetic for Diggs.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt halftime [coach] told us just stay positive,\u201d Diggs said. \u201cKeep rolling with the punches. It was still tight there. All we needed to do was get a drive going, it just happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stefon Diggs Could Face Other Punishment<\/strong><\/p>\n

While he avoided a fine for the Super Bowl scuffle, Diggs could face further punishment from the league for his off-the-field actions. The All-Pro wide receiver was arraigned on criminal charges of felony strangulation or suffocation after a December incident where police say he assaulted a former personal chef.<\/p>\n

Diggs had originally faced the arraignment before the playoffs started, but had it delayed until after the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n

Diggs, through an attorney, professed his innocence.<\/p>\n

\u201cStefon Diggs categorically denies these allegations,\u201d attorney David Meier said in a statement, via The Athletic. \u201cThey are unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated \u2014 because they did not occur. The timing and motivation for making the allegations (are) crystal clear: they are the direct result of an employee-employer financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee\u2019s satisfaction. Stefon looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Diggs could still face punishment from the NFL, which has wide latitude to hand down suspensions for players accused of assault. That was the case for former Bills edge rusher Von Miller, who faced charges similar to Diggs after a November 2023 incident. The league handed Miller a four-game suspension, even though the case ultimately didn\u2019t proceed through court.<\/p>\n
