The Atlanta Braves failed to meet high expectations in 2024. They were decimated by injuries last season and will need to make moves to get back on track for 2025. That could mean parting ways with a fan favorite.<\/p>\n

While discussing Braves trade candidates, MLB.com’s Mark Bowman floated the idea of the Braves potentially moving Ozzie Albies who could have a high trade value because of his contract.<\/p>\n

“There would also be reason to debate moving Ozzie Albies, the three-time All-Star second baseman whose contract includes a $7 million salary for 2025 and $7 million options for 2026 and \u201927,” wrote Bowman. “That\u2019s a good value if he remains healthy enough to bid for another 30-homer season. He\u2019s also a strong clubhouse presence. But his arm strength has weakened his defensive value and to get a strong return you sometimes must part ways with something significant.”<\/p>\n

The Braves signed Albies to a seven-year, $35 million extension in 2019. He has $7 million club options for 2026 and 2027. He is a three-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger. However, last season his batting average was .251 and he played just 99 games. The Braves could be in need of a starting pitcher with Max Fried’s potential departure.<\/p>\n

There are plenty of available options on the market. Albies could be a valuable trade chip for a player like Luis Castillo or Garrett Crochet. Albies is a fan-favorite in Atlanta and losing him would be a big blow. However, it may be necessary if the Braves want different results in 2025.<\/p>\n
