The San Francisco Giants just made a move that\u2019s as smart as it is strategic, signing Luis Arraez – a three-time batting champ and one of the purest contact hitters in the game. But this isn\u2019t just about adding a high-average bat to the lineup. It\u2019s about building in flexibility, depth, and a little insurance for one of the club\u2019s most exciting young prospects: Bryce Eldridge.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s break it down. Heading into spring training, Eldridge looked like the frontrunner to take over the designated hitter role, especially after his rapid rise through the minors last year. But now, with Arraez in the fold, the Giants have given themselves a safety net – and that\u2019s a move that shows foresight.<\/p>\n

Eldridge is just 21, and while his talent is undeniable, the track record is still being written. He started last season in Double-A, impressed with his power, but also racked up a lot of strikeouts.<\/p>\n

Then came a quick jump to Triple-A Sacramento, and eventually a September call-up to the bigs. In that brief stint, he collected just three hits in 28 at-bats – a reminder that the leap to MLB pitching is no small thing.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also the Jerar Encarnaci\u00f3n factor. He\u2019s out of minor league options, so the Giants may choose to give him a look at DH early in the season.<\/p>\n
