LEGENDARY San Francisco 49ers star Chet Brooks has died at the age of 60.<\/p>\n

Tributes are pouring in for the two-time Super Bowl champion after his death from cancer.<\/p>\n

It has been announced by Texas A&M University that the \u2018Wrecking Crew\u2019 icon has died.<\/p>\n

He was born as Terrance Donnell Brooks on January 1, 1966 in Midland, Texas.<\/p>\n

Brooks played college football for the Aggies.<\/p>\n

The safety coined the name the \u2018Wrecking Crew\u2019 for its intimidating defense,<\/p>\n

He was named as a Second-team All-SWC player during the 1987 college football<\/span> season.<\/p>\n

Brooks was picked by the 49ers with the 303rd overall pick during the 11th round of the 1988 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n

The former Texas A&M star played a key role for the 49ers as they won Super Bowl XXIII during his rookie campaign.<\/p>\n

They defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 20-16 at the then-named Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami, Florida.<\/p>\n

Brooks\u2019 49ers then went on to beat the Denver Broncos 55-10 at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans a year later.<\/p>\n

His alma mater has led the tributes for the former 49ers safety following his battle with cancer.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrooks, who came to Texas A&M from Carter High School in Dallas, was a four-year (1984-87) letterman in football,\u201d a statement from Texas A&M read.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn All-SWC and All-American safety, Brooks helped guide the Aggie football team to three-straight Southwest Conference Championships (1985-87) and three consecutive Cotton Bowl appearances.\u201d<\/p>\n

He was inducted into the Aggies\u2019 Hall of Fame in 2011.<\/p>\n

Brooks was forced to retire from football after suffering a career-ending injury against the Green Bay Packers on November 4, 1990.<\/p>\n

Brooks went into coaching with the Football University.<\/p>\n

FBU co-founder Anthony Williams has also shared kind words for the 49ers icon.<\/p>\n
