The Chicago Cubs made their biggest move of the offseason when they traded for Edward Cabrera, but with Kyle Tucker on the way out, they\u2019ve yet to replace his bat. So, they need to find a replacement.<\/p>\n

One way they can do that is by signing one of the last big free agents on the market. According to Fansided\u2019s Robert Murray, the Cubs should pursue two-time World Series champ and three-time All-Star Alex Bregman.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s start with Bregman. The Cubs have had interest in the third baseman in each of the last two offseasons. They made a competitive offer before he signed with the Boston Red Sox last winter. They held a Zoom meeting with Bregman early in this offseason, sources say, and have a need for another bat, especially with so much uncertainty within the infield after 2026. (Nico Hoerner will be a free agent next winter.)…The Cubs should do it. They need to operate like a big-market team and attempt to not only catch, but pass, the Milwaukee Brewers in the Central. And the opportunity to do so is staring them right in the face,\u201d Murray wrote.<\/p>\n

This past season with the Sox, Bregman slashed .273\/.360\/.462\/.821 with 28 doubles, 18 home runs, and 62 RBI in 114 games. He would slot in over Matt Shaw at third, and his Gold Glove would be an amazing upgrade, along with his slugging bat.<\/p>\n

\"Rumored<\/p>\n

Bregman\u2019s projected contract has come down quite a bit since his market has dwindled, bringing him to a four-year, $112 million deal. Either the Cubs can match that, or overpay a bit and lock him down. Either way, it would be a great move by Chicago.<\/p>\n

Hopefully, the Cubs realize this is a move they should make and start talking with Bregman\u2019s camp before the Boston Red Sox can bring him back.<\/p>\n
