Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was barely targeted in the last outing of the 2025 NFL regular season, leading to backlash from fans during what could be his final appearance in the league.<\/p>\n

A disastrous season came to an end for the Chiefs on Sunday as they lost 14-12 against the Las Vegas Raiders, raising further questions about what may be in store for the 2026 season. Head coach Andy Reid has yet to receive confirmation that the Chiefs intend to retain him next season, and Kelce has yet to decide whether he will return or retire.<\/p>\n

Although Kelce’s future remains unknown, Sunday’s game could have been his last if he decides to retire from the NFL. As a result, fans were furious that he only had one catch for five yards in the first half of the Week 18 game against the Las Vegas Raiders, and he was wide open on several occasions in what was his final game of the season.<\/p>\n

Kelce finished the game with two receptions for 10 yards, hauling in just one five-yard grab in each half. After missing out on the NFL Playoffs for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era, things went from bad to worse after the Chiefs this season when the franchise quarterback suffered a season-ending injury.<\/p>\n

Mahomes’ backup, Gardner Minshew, then suffered a season-ending injury the following week. That left the Chiefs putting their faith in third-string Chris Oladokun, who lost his first NFL start on Christmas Day against the Denver Broncos. Oladokun shares a close relationship with Kelce, and the tight end led the Chiefs with five receptions for 36 yards during the defeat.<\/p>\n

However, Sunday’s game followed a different script, as Kelce was mainly a bystander during the first half. With Chiefs fans fearing that Kelce could retire at the end of this season, coach Reid was slammed on social media for not involving the tight end.<\/p>\n

“Someone call Andy Reid and let him know it could be Kelce\u2019s last game,” one fan wrote on X. “So we’re going to not actively target Kelce again this game? Seriously?” Another added.<\/p>\n

“How is Kelce only at 1 target?? If this is his last game that is gross malpractice,” a third wrote. “How are we not scheming up plays to get Kelce open in what might be his last game. Makes no sense,” another asked.<\/p>\n

However, another fan suggested that Kelce’s lack of action indicated that he could return in 2026. “Maybe Kelce isn\u2019t retiring. The @Chiefs don\u2019t seem interested in forcing the ball his way\u2026at all,” they wrote.<\/p>\n

Kelce has yet to announce his future, but he promised to inform the Chiefs by early March. Kelce does not wish to disrupt any plans for the NFL Draft and free agency.<\/p>\n

The tight end has been asked about his thought process on several occasions, but during a recent interview with Tony Gonzalez at his steakhouse, 1587 Prime, Kelce was asked whether he had played his final game at Arrowhead Stadium, home to the Chiefs.<\/p>\n

“You know, that’s a good question, man,” he said. “I think I’m still searching for those answers. I think, you know, obviously, the way this one ended with a sour taste in my mouth, I feel motivated.<\/p>\n

“But I gotta make the right decision for me. And I gotta hope that, you know, if I do want to come back, you know, the Chiefs are willing to bring me back. So it’s a two-way street on that.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
