The Yankees’ pursuit of Brendan Donovan just got a little more complicated-and a lot more interesting. The Boston Red Sox have reportedly entered the mix for the Cardinals\u2019 versatile infielder, adding a layer of AL East drama to what was already shaping up to be a competitive market.<\/p>\n

According to recent reports, Boston isn\u2019t done after acquiring Willson Contreras. They\u2019re still hunting for another impact bat to bolster their infield, and Donovan is firmly on their radar.<\/p>\n

But he\u2019s not the only name they\u2019re eyeing. The Red Sox are also said to be looking at Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte, Astros third baseman Isaac Paredes, and even high-profile free agents like Bo Bichette and Alex Bregman-who, notably, spent the 2025 season with Boston.<\/p>\n

Boston has reportedly balked at Arizona\u2019s asking price so far, and it\u2019s easy to see why. The Diamondbacks are believed to be targeting MLB-ready arms like Connelly Early and Payton Tolle – two young pitchers the Sox are high on.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also been chatter about Marcelo Mayer\u2019s name being floated in potential Marte packages, and that\u2019s where things get tricky. Mayer, the former No. 1 prospect in the organization, is viewed as a cornerstone of Boston\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

Trading him would be a seismic move – and one the front office seems reluctant to make.<\/p>\n

If the Marte path closes, the Red Sox still have options. Bregman remains a top target, and while his market has been quieter than expected, Boston has the financial flexibility to meet his price – if they decide he\u2019s worth it.<\/p>\n
