The Miami Heat managed to avoid what could have been a much more serious situation on Monday when Nikola Jovic suffered an injury during their game against the Toronto Raptors. According to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald<\/em>, Jovic sustained an elbow contusion and laceration and is currently listed as day-to-day. Thankfully, the injury does not appear to be season-threatening, allowing the team to breathe a sigh of relief amid a challenging stretch of games.<\/p>\n The incident occurred early in the Heat\u2019s 106-96 loss to the Raptors. Jovic, who had just checked into the game, went up for a dunk and experienced a hard fall underneath the basket. He remained on the floor for several minutes before receiving assistance, eventually leaving the court with an air cast on his right arm. The fall was alarming, particularly given Miami\u2019s injury woes this season, and initially raised concerns about whether the young forward would miss significant time.<\/p>\n It has been a difficult season for Jovic personally. The 21-year-old forward is averaging only 7.2 points per game, shooting below 40 percent from the field, and struggling even more from three-point range with under 30 percent accuracy. With these numbers, Jovic has largely been out of the regular rotation, seeing limited minutes as the Heat try to find the right lineup combinations.<\/p>\n However, with multiple injuries affecting Miami\u2019s roster, Jovic was given an opportunity to step into a larger role. Unfortunately, this chance was immediately interrupted by his own injury. Despite the scare, reports indicate that the injury is not severe, and Jovic is expected to be able to return relatively quickly. This is a small but significant piece of good news for a Heat team that has been battling through a rough patch.<\/p>\n Miami has been struggling to find consistency recently, currently sitting on a five-game losing streak. At 14-12 on the season, the Heat are looking to regain momentum heading into the new calendar year.
