The Chicago Cubs made a blockbuster trade last offseason to acquire Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros. Tucker is now a free agent, seemingly linked to many contenders, but not the Cubs.<\/p>\n

Tucker is a four-time All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger, Gold Glover and World Series champion. He did not have his best season with the Cubs, but that does not change the fact that the Cubs gave up former first-round pick Cam Smith in the deal to land him.<\/p>\n

The Toronto Blue Jays have reportedly already hosted Tucker on a visit to their spring training facility in Florida. Other contenders like the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers have also been connected to him, and Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly predicts that he will not be back in Chicago next season.<\/p>\n

It is unclear where Tucker will sign, but experts around the league seem to believe that the Blue Jays are the favorites to sign him. They have the spending capacity and have already shown their willingness to be aggressive so far this winter. The Dodgers are reportedly interested in Tucker, but not on a long-term deal.<\/p>\n

Kelly noted that a “nightmare” scenario would be Tucker’s market not developing and him signing a short-term deal with opt-outs. In that case, the Dodgers would actually have a chance at signing the superstar as they chase a three-peat. However, one thing missing amid all of these rumors is the Cubs’ involvement.<\/p>\n

Tucker struggled to hit at Wrigley Field last season, at least compared to his road numbers. Perhaps he himself is not interested in returning, but ultimately the lack of buzz surrounding Tucker’s return points to a likely divorce.<\/p>\n
