The San Francisco Giants are making moves this offseason, and one name that\u2019s firmly on their radar is Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte. According to league insiders, the Giants are actively engaged in trade discussions with Arizona, eyeing Marte as a potential solution to their glaring need for offensive production at second base.<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s not hard to see why. Despite missing some time with a hamstring injury in 2025, Marte still turned in a strong season at the plate.<\/p>\n

In 126 games, the veteran switch-hitter slashed .283\/.376\/.517 with 28 home runs, 72 RBIs, and a 145 OPS+. That\u2019s the kind of production that doesn\u2019t just fill a hole – it elevates a lineup.<\/p>\n

The Giants have been exploring multiple avenues to upgrade the position, both in free agency and through trade, but Marte stands out as a high-impact target. He brings a rare blend of power, patience, and versatility – and he\u2019s done it consistently over more than a decade in the big leagues.<\/p>\n

Over the past three seasons alone, Marte has posted a .283\/.368\/.519 line with 89 homers and a 141 OPS+, good for a 16.0 bWAR during that stretch. That\u2019s elite territory for a second baseman.<\/p>\n

Arizona, meanwhile, seems to be entering a bit of a reset. After missing the postseason again, the D-backs are reportedly open to moving Marte – despite signing him to a six-year, $116.5 million extension at the start of the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

The injury may have sidelined him early, but it didn\u2019t slow his bat. Still, with both Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly gone in free agency, Arizona now finds itself in desperate need of starting pitching.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s where the trade market comes in. According to reports, the D-backs are listening to offers and are particularly interested in organizations that can offer young, controllable arms.<\/p>\n

The Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, and Detroit Tigers have all been mentioned as teams with the kind of pitching depth Arizona covets. Each of those clubs has reportedly checked in on Marte, making this a competitive market.<\/p>\n

But the Giants appear serious. If they\u2019re going to land Marte, it won\u2019t come cheap.<\/p>\n

Arizona is expected to ask for a significant return – likely a package of top prospects. For San Francisco, that\u2019s a big ask, but the payoff could be just as big.<\/p>\n

Marte isn\u2019t just a short-term rental. He\u2019s under contract through 2031 on a deal that, given his production, looks more team-friendly by the year.<\/p>\n

At 32, Marte still has plenty in the tank. He\u2019s a switch-hitter with power from both sides, a steady glove, and a proven track record of producing in big moments. For a Giants team looking to get back into contention, he could be the kind of cornerstone addition that reshapes their infield and recharges their offense.<\/p>\n
