As the Houston Astros look ahead to 2026, there\u2019s a growing sense that Lance McCullers Jr. will be part of their starting rotation – not because he\u2019s earned it with recent performance, but because, frankly, the team may not have a better option.<\/p>\n

At the Winter Meetings in Orlando, Astros GM Dana Brown offered a glimpse into the team\u2019s mindset regarding McCullers. His tone was cautiously optimistic, but the subtext was clear: this is a pitcher with something to prove, and the Astros are quietly hoping he can deliver.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s got something to prove to the baseball world that he\u2019s still Lance McCullers and he can get after it,\u201d Brown said. \u201cI\u2019m kind of excited about seeing him in spring training, to be honest.\u201d<\/p>\n

That excitement feels less like confidence and more like hope – the kind of hope you cling to when your rotation is full of question marks and your offseason pitching acquisitions haven\u2019t exactly moved the needle.<\/p>\n

A Rotation in Flux<\/h3>\n

Let\u2019s be real: the Astros are in a tough spot. Their once-dominant rotation is looking thin, and the front office hasn\u2019t exactly loaded up on proven arms this winter.
