The\u00a0Los Angeles Lakers\u00a0emerged as legitimate trade suitors for\u00a0Milwaukee Bucks\u00a0star Giannis Antetokounmpo on Dec. 3.<\/p>\n

For clarity,\u00a0ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania\u00a0reported that Antetokounmpo is reevaluating his future with the Bucks, opening the door for a potential blockbuster trade to the Lakers.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, though, a recent trade update involving Antetokounmpo and Austin Reaves is undoubtedly the\u00a0worst news possible\u00a0for the franchise.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the Lakers are, like there\u2019s been this dichotomy of either the Lakers stand pat or they try to make some crazy Giannis trade that involves Reaves and all their picks,\u201d NBA Insider Zach Lowe said on the Zach Lowe Show Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think there\u2019s a middle ground where the Lakers, there\u2019s some buzz about could they sort of make a fringey trade to try to upgrade this roster. I think as this new ownership comes in, I think they\u2019re trying to maximize this team.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Essentially, Lowe is insinuating that, instead of completing a headline-worthy trade that would alter the Western Conference power dynamic, the Lakers will likely make a smaller deal to\u00a0address a specific issue.<\/p>\n

Considering that many don\u2019t believe the Lakers are serious championship contenders, the Lakers\u2019 stance on trading Reaves to Milwaukee for Antetokounmpo is puzzling, to say the least.<\/p>\n

A superstar like Antetokounmpo is exactly what Luka Doncic and the Lakers need to get over the hump this season.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-11 NBA champion is known for getting defenders off-balance with a swift crossover jab before finishing above the rim and using his defensive versatility to make life challenging for backcourt and frontcourt opponents.<\/p>\n

Antetokounmpo, who\u2019s currently nursing a calf injury, is averaging 28.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game with the below-average 11-15 Bucks.<\/p>\n
