The Boston Red Sox already made one major addition to their starting rotation by trading for Sonny Gray. However, they could still look to upgrade the rotation.<\/p>\n

Gray is a solid addition and could slot in right behind Garrett Crochet. Currently, the group behind Crochet is led by Gray and Brayan Bello. It is a solid trio for the Red Sox, but in a superstar-loaded American League East, there is no such thing as too many quality starters. On Thursday, Just Baseball\u2019s Ryan Finkelstein predicted the Red Sox would sign Michael King to a three-year, $66 million deal with an opt-out after next season.<\/p>\n

King was traded to the San Diego Padres in the deal that brought Juan Soto to the New York Yankees. The Padres allowed King to serve as a starter full-time, something the Yankees never let him do. King thrived in his first season as a starter, pitching to a 2.95 ERA. He struck out 201 batters that season as well.<\/p>\n

Last season was not so kind to King. He dealt with shoulder and knee injuries and made just 15 starts. He had a 3.44 ERA and is one of the most intriguing options on the open market. He is attached to a qualifying offer and has just two seasons as a starter under his belt.<\/p>\n

The qualifying offer is not ideal for the Red Sox or any team looking to sign King. However, Craig Breslow has to keep his foot on the gas to keep the Red Sox in the American League East picture.<\/p>\n

The Blue Jays have already signed Dylan Cease, and the Yankees have reported interest in Kyle Tucker, among other star free agents. Adding King would give the Red Sox another reliable arm.<\/p>\n

A group of Crochet, King, Gray and Bello could be enough to help the Red Sox make a deep run in October. The team has already proven they can reach October, so the moves they make need to be geared toward winning a World Series.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n
