Many Boston Red Sox fans must have raised their eyebrows when news hit on Wednesday night that Dylan Cease is now a member of the Toronto Blue Jays.<\/p>\n

Almost as soon as the Cease news emerged, however, so did a narrative that Toronto had just given Cease way too rich of a deal. Not surprisingly, this has already become a wildly popular storyline amongst Red Sox fans, who have a very convenient argument when comparing Cease\u2019s $210 million contract over seven years with Garrett Crochet\u2019s $170 million over six years.<\/p>\n

Crochet is also younger than Cease, and a far superior starting pitcher. This reality has made plenty of Red Sox fans point expose the Blue Jays\u2019 \u201cgreat signing\u201d on social media as perhaps not as sparkling as it appears.<\/p>\n

The Cease jokes, while funny, are probably a bit of a reach. This was undoubtedly a positive signing for the Blue Jays and their chances of returning to the World Series, even if they did overpay (if you\u2019ve got the funds, who cares?).<\/p>\n

Cease has evolved from a wild Cubs prospect into a strikeout machine through the years, amassing over 1,200 Ks in seven big-league seasons. Adding that type of arm to a rotation already featuring Kevin Gausman and Trey Yesavage is a dangerous development for the rest of the American League East, and Red Sox fans surely know that.<\/p>\n

If anything, criticisms from Red Sox fans about the Cease deal were more a show of appreciation for Crochet and the front office that locked in the lefty flamethrower for years to come.<\/p>\n
