The Boston Red Sox made their first big move of this offseason when they traded with the St. Louis Cardinals for Sonny Gray. However, he wasn\u2019t the No. 2 pitcher that Sox fans thought they were getting.<\/p>\n

Red Sox CBO Craig Breslow was interviewed after the move and made a vague statement on whether he believed Gray to be the No. 2 starter.<\/p>\n

“I don’t know how much sense it makes in November to put a number on a guy\u2026We still intend to improve our team. Exactly what that looks like, we don’t know right now,\u201d Breslow said (via Alex Speier).<\/p>\n

However, in another article by Speier, Breslow revealed that he wouldn\u2019t rule out chances to make the team better by upgrading the rotation once again.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe felt like there was an opportunity to upgrade our rotation in 2026 and we did that,\u201d Breslow stated. \u201cIt\u2019s early in the offseason. There are still opportunities that I anticipate materializing. Exactly what they look like, I\u2019m not sure. But we\u2019re not going to close off any chance to make the team better.\u201d<\/p>\n

The problem is if the Sox get another arm, analysts believe they won\u2019t acquire multiple bats this offseason, meaning it\u2019s more likely an \u201cor\u201d rather than an \u201cand\u201d when it comes to Alex Bregman and Pete Alonso.<\/p>\n

However, the Sox could still go for a star pitcher AND those hitters. It just means they have to pay a luxury tax for this season and maybe the next, as Sonny Gray only has a year left on his deal.<\/p>\n
