The Texas Rangers have a new manager for the 2026 MLB season.<\/p>\n

And under the leadership of Skip Schumaker, the Rangers could decide to make some changes.<\/p>\n

ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez pointed to one concept in particular: a trade of Adolis Garcia.<\/p>\n

Garcia is a two-time All Star and was the 2023 ALCS MVP, but he’s 32 now and coming off a season in which he batted .227 with a .665 OPS.<\/p>\n

“The expectation throughout the industry is that the Rangers will cut payroll in pursuit of getting younger under new manager Skip Schumaker, with outfielder\u00a0Adolis Garcia\u00a0seen as a prime trade candidate,” Gonzalez writes.<\/p>\n

At the GM Meetings this week, Rangers leader Chris Young pushed back against the idea of making trades just to make trades.<\/p>\n

“We’re going to have a payroll that’s high enough for us to win,” Young said, via ESPN. “We’ve got a great core group in place, and we are in a great position that we don’t have to make any moves to accommodate payroll, to buy payroll flexibility so to speak. We’re expecting to win with whatever number we have.”<\/p>\n

The Rangers had a bizarre 2025 season. They had the lowest team ERA in all of baseball, yet they finished nine games back in the AL West.<\/p>\n

The offense hasn’t been good enough in the two years since winning the World Series. Garcia’s regression has certainly been a part of that, but he’s far from the only culprit.<\/p>\n

It seems the Rangers have to solve the lineup one way or the other, whether that’s by addition or subtraction or even addition by subtraction.<\/p>\n
