After the Pittsburgh Steelers<\/strong> suffered a 25\u201310 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers<\/strong>, Head Coach Mike Tomlin<\/strong> spoke out, calling on the NFL to investigate unsportsmanlike behavior<\/strong> by safety Derwin James<\/strong> (Chargers) following a controversial hit on Aaron Rodgers<\/strong>. The hit caused Rodgers to injure his hand and significantly impacted the outcome of the game.<\/p>\n

The controversial moment occurred in the 4th quarter<\/strong>, when the Steelers<\/strong> were trailing 18\u201310<\/strong> and faced a 2nd & 8<\/strong> at the Chargers\u2019 35-yard line<\/strong>. Rodgers<\/strong> executed a play-action pass<\/strong>, evading pressure from the Chargers\u2019 defense<\/strong>, and attempted to throw to WR George Pickens<\/strong>. However, the throw was incomplete, and Rodgers was hit hard from behind<\/strong> by Derwin James<\/strong>, causing his right hand to hit the ground. While this collision took place after Rodgers had released the ball<\/strong>, it should have been flagged as roughing the passer<\/strong>, but no penalty flag was thrown.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe thought it was a clear penalty,\u201d<\/strong> Coach Mike Tomlin<\/strong> said after the game. \u201cThe hit occurred after Rodgers had thrown the ball, and the officials should have thrown a flag. It was an unsafe play and needed to be called. The NFL needs to investigate the officials\u2019 decision in this situation.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

After the hit, Rodgers<\/strong> tried to continue playing, but he clearly struggled with the hand injury and couldn\u2019t help the team turn the game around.
