After a 1-8 start to the year, the New Orleans Saints were viewed as clear sellers at the NFL trade deadline.<\/p>\n

While Alvin Kamara would rather retire than get traded, another offensive player was readily available.<\/p>\n

New Orleans traded wide receiver Rashid Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The Saints officially moved on from one of their receivers as they begin executing their deadline plans.<\/p>\n

Seahawks receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba reacted to the trade on social media, and shortly after, Chris Olave, a teammate of Smith-Njigba’s at Ohio State and now a former teammate of Shaheed, shared a six-word message on the Saints-Seahawks trade.<\/p>\n

Olave’s message was a short one, but it both praised Shaheed and congratulated his former Ohio State teammate on his team’s acquisition.<\/p>\n

“You got a great one, bro,” Olave responded to Smith-Njigba.<\/p>\n

In return for sending the speedy receiver to the Saints, the Seahawks sent a fourth-round and fifth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Seattle reunites Shaheed with Klint Kubiak, while the Saints recoup solid draft capital.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old is in the final year of his rookie deal and will be a rental option for Seattle. At 6-2, the Seahawks have a chance to win the NFC West and go on a Super Bowl run.<\/p>\n

New Orleans is 1-8 and heading into a rebuild. While Olave has been subject to trade talks, the Saints have expressed their intent to keep him. Shaheed was always a different story, and now, he’s heading up north to Seattle to help a Seahawks offense contend in 2025.<\/p>\n

Olave congratulated Smith-Njigba for his team’s acquisition of Shaheed. He should help the Seahawks’ offense and Smith-Njigba get even more open this season.<\/p>\n

While seeing a fan-favorite like Shaheed depart, it’s a better outcome than letting him walk in hopes of landing a compensatory pick in return.<\/p>\n

And for Shaheed, he goes from one first-round Ohio State wide receiver to another.<\/p>\n
