A 93-win season for the Chicago Cubs officially wrapped up Sunday night with the announcement of three Gold Glove winners for the club.<\/p>\n

Those three players were second baseman Nico Hoerner, left fielder Ian Happ and centerfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong. It is just the second time in franchise history that Chicago has produced three winners in the same season.<\/p>\n

Hoerner secured his second career Gold Glove Award with his first coming in 2023. According to Statcast, Hoerner led all second basemen in runs prevented (10) and outs above average (14). It is the first time in Hoerner’s career that he’s led all second basemen in both categories.<\/p>\n

For Happ, it is his fourth consecutive season as the NL’s Gold Glove winner in left field. That is the most in Cubs franchise history for an outfielder and the second longest streak for a Chicago player behind the great Ryne Sandberg. Happ has consistently been the best left fielder in the National League and has now been rewarded for it four seasons in a row.<\/p>\n

Crow-Armstrong will take home the first of what should be many Gold Glove Awards in his career. He led all players in runs prevented with 22 and outs above average with 24. Crow-Armstrong’s 95% success rate also led the majors, showcasing his outstanding ability to reel in nearly every ball hit his way.<\/p>\n

Chicago’s excellence on defense is a big reason that fans are optimistic about the future of the franchise and its ability to use pitching and defense to help continuously secure a place in the MLB postseason.<\/p>\n
