A Boston Red Sox coach reportedly won\u2019t progress in his pursuit of an MLB managerial opening.<\/p>\n

The Athletic\u2019s Dan Hayes and Brittany Ghiroli reported Friday that Red Sox bench coach Ram\u00f3n V\u00e1zquez \u201cdidn\u2019t advance\u201d in the Minnesota Twins\u2019 quest for a new manager. V\u00e1zquez interviewed for the chance to replace Rocco Baldelli, whom the Twins fired after a 70-92 season.<\/p>\n

Hayes and Ghiroli said the Twins have narrowed down their search to former Pittsburgh Pirates manager Derek Shelton, former Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais, New York Yankees hitting coach James Rowson and Chicago Cubs bench coach Ryan Flaherty.<\/p>\n

V\u00e1zquez joined Alex Cora\u2019s Red Sox staff in 2018 after one year with the San Diego Padres. He spent the 2022 season as Boston\u2019s first base coach before becoming the bench coach in 2023.<\/p>\n

V\u00e1zquez got a brief taste of the managerial role earlier this year. Filling in for Cora, who was attending his daughter\u2019s college graduation ceremony, V\u00e1zquez oversaw a Red Sox win over the New York Mets on May 19.<\/p>\n

At the time, Cora predicted that his longtime confidant would eventually get a chance to manage full-time.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has it in him,\u201d Cora said. \u201cIt\u2019s just a matter of time. I truly believe that, and for him to have that experience, it\u2019s great.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Twins were the first team to interview V\u00e1zquez for a managing job, but the American League Central team will reportedly look elsewhere for a new clubhouse leader. That could mean V\u00e1zquez returns to Boston for his ninth season in 2026.<\/p>\n
