The New York Mets suffered one of the worst collapses in MLB history this season. The team appeared to be a near-lock for the playoffs for the second consecutive year, but that hope quickly faded. Losing such a significant lead will likely haunt the Mets throughout the offseason.<\/p>\n

Throughout the year, Pete Alonso has remained noncommittal about his future in New York, creating an unusual situation.<\/p>\n

If Alonso decides to leave New York, the Boston Red Sox could emerge as a serious contender for the first baseman\u2019s services.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, while there’s a good chance they either re-sign Bregman or bring in either Alonso or Bo Bichette, it’s unlikely they’ll sign multiple members of that trio. We shall see which one they prefer,\u201d Bleacher Report\u2019s Kerry Miller wrote.<\/p>\n

Alonso would bring significant value to the Red Sox and could quickly become a fan favorite at Fenway. Seeking a fresh start, his time in New York may be coming to an end. The Red Sox would offer a unique opportunity, and Alonso could ultimately finish his career in Boston.<\/p>\n
