The Pittsburgh Pirates added an outfielder who flashed some power in the minor leagues by claiming Will Robertson off waivers Monday from the Chicago White Sox.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old Robertson made his major league debut last season, batting .129 (9 for 70) with one double and nine RBIs with 27 strikeouts against two walks in 27 games between the Toronto Blue Jays (three) and the White Sox (24). He made 19 combined appearances (16 starts) in left field, five appearances (four starts) in right field and one appearance in center field.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-1, 215-pounder batted .289\/.387\/.571 with 21 doubles, a career-best 20 home runs and 60 RBIs in 89 games in the minor leagues, split between Triple-A Buffalo and Charlotte.<\/p>\n

Robertson, who was drafted in the fourth round by Toronto out of Creighton in 2019, hit double-digit home runs six times in the minors, including 19-homer seasons in 2023 and \u201924. He made his MLB debut on June 15. He was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on July 6 before being acquired by the White Sox on July 10.<\/p>\n

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Pirates designated infielder\/outfielder Ryan Kreidler for assignment. Kreidler was claimed off waivers from the Detroit Tigers on Aug. 24 but never played in a major league game for the Pirates.<\/p>\n
