The Atlanta Braves have a solid situation at the catcher position. The team has Sean Murphy under club control for four more years and Drake Baldwin is shaping up to be a star.<\/p>\n

Baldwin is the favorite to win National League Rookie of the Year, and Murphy should return to dominating at the plate when he’s healthy. He had been playing with an injury for over a year, and he is finally getting it taken care of. With Marcell Ozuna seemingly not returning, the pair could split catching and designated hitter duties.<\/p>\n

The Braves may want some depth in the minor leagues in case something happens to either of them. On Monday, veteran catcher Sandy Le\u00f3n elected free agency after spending the year in the Braves organization. However, on Tuesday, the Braves agreed to a new minor league contract for Le\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Le\u00f3n has 13 years of big league experience. He played five games for the Braves this season, but played 55 games for the Braves’ Triple-A affiliate, the Gwinnett Stripers. He won a World Series with the Washington Nationals in 2019.<\/p>\n

Le\u00f3n has also played for the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Guardians, Miami Marlins, Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers. He will likely not play a huge role for the Braves, but he is a depth piece the Braves wanted to keep around should something keep Murphy and Baldwin out of the lineup.<\/p>\n

The Braves have some questions to answer this offseason, but the catcher position seems set. Between Baldwin and Murphy in the big leagues and Le\u00f3n in Triple-A, the team likely feels good about its situation behind the dish.<\/p>\n
