Jaguars vs. 49ers: Start ’em, sit ’em for Week 4 matchup

The Jacksonville Jaguars are on the road in Week 4 for a matchup with the San Francisco 49ers. A contest that will provide the Jaguars with a test on each side of the ball.

If you have any Jaguars players on your fantasy football team, who should you be starting this week and who should you be sitting?

Let’s take a look.

Start ’em: WR Brian Thomas Jr.

Thomas Jr. has been Trevor Lawrence’s favorite target this season. He has seen the football come his way 25 times this season, nine more than the next closest receivers, Dyami Brown, Parker Washington, and Brenton Strange (16).

Yet, despite Thomas Jr.’s impressive number of targets, he has the fifth-most receptions on the team (7). With those seven receptions, he has tallied 115 yards and a touchdown, averaging 16.4 yards per catch (most on the team).

Despite only having one game with more than two catches, Lawrence has targeted Thomas at least six times per game, and I don’t see that changing entering Week 4.

Start ’em: RB Trevor Etienne Jr.

Etienne has been the Jaguars’ leading rusher by a mile.

He has racked up 270 yards and a touchdown on the ground, and is averaging 90 yards on the ground per game.

Etienne has also gotten involved in the passing game and has caught three passes for 31 yards and a touchdown. His worst game of the season was in Week 3 against the Texans, where he only tallied 56 yards on the ground, but ran in his first touchdown of the season.

Sit ’em: QB Trevor Lawrence

Lawrence has had an up and down start to the Jaguars’ 2-1 season.

The six-foot-six, 220-pound quarterback has thrown for 671 yards and four touchdowns through Jacksonville’s first three games, but has matched his touchdown production with interceptions (4).

He has also been sacked three times in the Jaguars’ last two outings, including twice against the Houston Texans in Week 3.

The 49ers’ defense has tallied five sacks in their undefeated season, and while they have yet to record an interception, Lawrence has been the common denominator for turnovers this season. I would expect San Francisco to steal a turnover through the air against Jacksonville on Sunday.

Lawrence has thrown a pick in every game, and threw two against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Sit ’em: WR Travis Hunter

While Hunter has had an impressive start to the season, playing both ways for the Jaguars, he has not been able to produce much on offense.

Through the first three games of the season, Hunter has been targeted 16 times, resulting in 10 receptions for 76 yards.

He recorded a season-high six receptions in Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers, but for the past two games, he has only tallied four receptions on eight targets.

He has yet to find the endzone this season, and is averaging 25.3 yards per game through the air.
