Phillies’ silence is deafening with Alec Bohm trade rumors furiously swirling

Philadelphia Phillies All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm has been in the headlines for quite some time. In 2022, he was caught on camera saying “I (expletive) hate this place” talking about Philadelphia. Bohm struggled defensively at third base to start his big-league career, and the fans would let him hear it.

Bohm became a fan favorite not long after that moment and has been a big piece in the team’s success over the last three years. He was in the headlines again after a prolonged stint on the IL with a hand injury late in the 2024 season. The 28-year-old struggled mightily down the stretch and into the playoffs after being one of the best players in Major League Baseball during the first half of the season.

Bohm’s time in the City of Brotherly Love could be quickly coming to an end after rumors broke out about his availability on the trade block.

Bohm turned into an above-average player over the last two seasons. He broke out in 2023 with 31 doubles, 20 home runs and 97 RBI. He hit .280 with 44 doubles, 15 home runs and 97 RBI in 2024 and was named to the first All-Star Game of his career.

The area of his game that has plagued him the most is his defense. Bohm improved a lot defensively compared to when he first came up with the Phillies, but he’s still far from perfect.

Bohm’s attitude is also a concern. It was evident in 2022 with the on-field moment caught on camera, and it was seen again during his second-half struggles in 2024. He’s often seen frustrated more than a team would like with either himself or umpires.

The Phillies are rumored to want to shake things up in the lineup. They could keep the team intact, or they could make a splash in free agency or via trade. Bohm has been the hot topic in trade rumors over the last week.

It’s worth noting that the Phillies haven’t publicly addressed the rumors swirling about their third baseman or his future with the team. Teams believe Bohm will be traded, per ESPN’s Buster Olney on the Baseball Tonight Podcast. The Phillies could tell other teams and reporters that Bohm isn’t available, but they haven’t done that.

The Phillies are determined to win a World Series championship. Ownership and the front office have made it publicly known that they’ll do what it takes to bring the trophy home. If the organization believes trading Bohm will give them the best shot to win, they’ll do just that.
