Brock Purdy celebrates after the 49ers beat the Seahawks on September 07, 2025.
On Friday September 26, 2025, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is no longer on the 49ers’ injury report as is expected to start Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Purdy has missed the last two games for the 49ers with a toe injury. The 49ers won both games, against the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals, with backup Mac Jones at quarterback.
Purdy’s return should be a massive boost for an injury-plagued 49ers offense. They will be facing a Jaguars defense that is ranked No. 10 in total defense in 2025.
The Jags’ D has done especially well at limiting the points and stopping the run game. The Jaguars have allowed the 4th fewest points in the NFL this season, only surrendering 51.
They are also 4th in run defense, with 82.7 yards allowed per game and only 1 rush TD allowed so far this season.
That plays right into the 49ers weaknesses. They are in the bottom third of the NFL in scoring, 26th in the NFL in rushing yards per game and they are the only team in the NFL without a rushing touchdown so far this season.
But, the Jaguars are only 17th in pass defense. So having Purdy back could really be a difference maker for the Niners as they attempt to crack this Jags D.
DeMarcus Robinson Also Returning
To make things even better fore the 49ers’ passing offense, wide receiver DeMarcus Robinson is also returning from his 3-game suspension Sunday and playing his first game in 2025.
Injuries have plagued the 49ers at wide receiver more than any other position so far in 2025. And two of their “healthier” receivers, Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall, are questionable to play Sunday.
It’s a big comfort to know that they will at least have a proven veteran on the field at wideout in Robinson.
Robinson had the best season of his career thus far in 2024 with the Los Angeles Rams. He hauled in 31 catches for 505 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Purdy Looks To Quiet Narratives Again
In the most expected twist of public opinion, a few good games from Mac Jones has everyone doubting Brock Purdy again.
“Terrible news for 49ers, Mac Jones season was the turnaround that the team needed,” one fan replied to Schefter’s post on X.
“If the 49ers had drafted Mac Jones instead of Trey Lance, Brock Purdy would be Jones’ backup,” 49ers insider Grant Cohn wrote on X.

Despite Purdy having a 24-13 record, two NFC Championship appearances, Super Bowl appearance, 66-29 TD-INT ratio and a near-MVP season under his belt, football people always find a reason to hate on Purdy.
It’s puzzling, because it seems like he’d be the easiest player in the world to root for. He’s one of the most unlikely success stories in NFL history, building a very strong career after he was the very last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. And no matter what he achieves, he remains humble and complementary of his teammates in every media availability.
So Purdy, yet again, has an opportunity to prove that he deserves to be the 49ers’ franchise quarterback with a strong performance against the Jaguars.
49ers fans, are you excited to see Brock Purdy back on the field Sunday?
