CHICAGO – Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was ruled out for the remainder of Sunday’s Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears as the second half began with a left ankle injury.

Lamb suffered the injury in the first quarter, when he lined up as a running back in the back field behind Dak Prescott and was tackled awkwardly as he tried to bounce it to the outside.

After walking off the field under his own power, Lamb was examined by the Cowboys’ training staff on the bench for a few minutes before he removed his left cleat and went to the blue medical tent.

Initially, Lamb was ruled questionable to return and did come back on the field for the first play of the second quarter. On that play, Lamb came across in motion and was in clear discomfort, returning to the bench and staying there for the remainder of the half. After the game, he admitted that he was rushing the process to try and return a bit.

“This is like one of those protect me away from myself type of deals,” Lamb said. “Once I start feeling much better and then I started to get the strength back in my ankle… I was ready to go back out there, but they took me out.”

Does he believe that he’ll be able to be back on the field for the Cowboys next Sunday?

“For sure, absolutely.” Lamb said.

Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones appears to share that same optimistic view point after he talked to Lamb and the team’s training staff following the game.

“I talked to him, he felt good about it…” Jones said. “He thought he could go, so that’s a good sign. And then the doctors told him that they thought it was not as serious as it could be.”

Lamb will undergo further testing on Monday to determine the severity of his injury, but as it stands the tone surrounding it doesn’t appear to be that of a serious injury.

Last season, Lamb dealt with a shoulder injury for most of the back half of the year before missing Dallas’ last few games of the year.

Coming into Sunday’s game, Lamb had put up back-to-back 100 yard receiving performances and had four in a row dating back to last season. Lamb’s carry was his only touch of the game, as he did not catch a pass.

The good sign for Dallas was Lamb walking up and down the sideline on his own power, and not being sent back to the locker room in the first half.

Now, Dallas hopes that the injury is in fact not a severe one and he’ll be good to go going forward. The Cowboys return to AT&T Stadium next week to face the Green Bay Packers.
