The incident took place during the Chiefs’ 20-17 defeat to Philadelphia Eagles.
In the third quarter Kelce received a pass from Patrick Mahomes on his own 35-yard line and dashed upfield.
The tight end reached the Eagles 45-yard line and he was delighted with his effort.
Kelce, 35, reacted with an unusual celebration.
He stretched out his arms towards the ground and began shaking his hands, with his palms open.
The NFL have taken the decision to sanction Kelce for the “obscene” taunt.
Kelce has been hit with a $14,491 fine – his third since 2021.
According to the NFL’s fines and appeals schedule, unsportsmanlike conduct results in a $14,491 fine following a first offense and $20,288 for a second offense.
Fans were left puzzled by the fine given the nature of Kelce’s celebration.
One reacted saying: “So he was fined for celebrating a catch? Got it.”

Another added: “They should only be able to fine you if they describe in practical terms what the player did with super clarification LOL.”
A third wrote: “Are you kidding me. These fines are getting ridiculous.”
And another commented: “That’s considered obscene in the NFL?”
Kelce’s performances have led to calls for him to be dropped with the Chiefs 0-2.
He has produced two of the worst moments of the season for the Chiefs.
The first game in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers when he absolutely leveled his own teammate Xavier Worthy.
That play dislocated Worthy’s shoulder and held him out of the Super Bowl rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2.
Worthy will possibly miss Week 3 as well due to the injury.
