The Texas Rangers scored three runs but the Miami Marlins scored four runs.
Now as the season methodically circles the drain, it’s interesting that the Rangers featured just one player (unless you count Josh Smith and his three pinch runner appearances) that appeared in tonight’s game who was a part of the team that rampaged to a championship just under two years ago.
Despite the impression that Chris Young and company have been kind of desperately holding onto the recent past and trying to keep the band together in hopes that whatever happened in October 2023 will be rekindled, there was only Josh Jung and memories of better days for Texas as they continued their slide to oblivion in 2025.
The vestiges of what we expected this club to be dragged themselves out to the field and produced three runs on eight hits, a ninth inning rally dying with the tying and winning runs in scoring position. Jack Leiter’s positive rookie season finished its home slate with a loss on eight hits and four runs in 5.2 innings.
Tomorrow, the Rangers will try to avoid getting swept by one of the National League’s worst teams. Then there will be three more games left in this final homestand before three games on the road to conclude this disappointing season.
Player of the Game: Kyle Higashioka hit a ninth inning solo home run. It was Texas’ only extra base hit of the evening.
Up Next: The Rangers close out this series with the Marlins tomorrow with a pitcher not yet named for Texas against RHP Eury Perez for Miami.
The Sunday afternoon first pitch from The Shed is scheduled for 1:35 pm CT and will be shown on the Rangers Sports Network.
